Kiran had always been a proponent of democratising cybersecurity and his passion on this front is next to none. He wants to be at the forefront when it comes to building a cyber-resilient Australia. He wants to ensure that every organisation understands the risks associated with cybersecurity and initiates proactive steps to mitigate it. He has spoken at various CIO/CISO conferences on contemporary cybersecurity issues. He also has a special interest in cybersecurity related impacts on critical infrastructure and industrial control systems in water, power, telecommunications, and manufacturing sector. Kiran’s passion for cybersecurity is infectious. In his own words, “cybersecurity gives me dopamine!”
Why Cyber Ethos?
The Greek philosopher Aristotle developed a technique called “The Three Appeals”. He called these appeals: Lagos, Pathos and Ethos.
- Lagos is the Greek word for ‘a reason’. It uses logical thoughts, facts, and rationality as its persuasion modality.
- Pathos is a Greek word meaning ‘an experience’. It evokes an emotional response as its persuasion modality.
- Ethos is the Greek word for ‘character’. It is an appeal to authority and credibility. A detailed definition articulates it as the character or guiding beliefs of a person or entity, such as a group or an organisation.
We use all three techniques but at the core of our organisation we stand by our ‘character, ethics, authority and credibility’ related to cybersecurity. Hence, we are Cyber Ethos.
